CLEAR LAKE, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx boys and girls track and field teams returned to action on Thursday afternoon, as they competed in their Class 3A State Qualifying Meet at Lions Field in Clear Lake. Webster City was joined by the host Lions, as well as Charles City, Decorah, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Humboldt, Independence and Nevada.
Webster City’s boys would place 4th in the meet with a total of 85 points, and auto-qualified 4 events to next week’s state meet. The Lynx placed 2nd in the sprint medley in a time of 1:32.28 with the team of Griffith-Hansen-Stroner-Callahan, before winning the distance medley in a time of 3:36.07 with the team of Griffith-Hansen-Stroner-Murillo Delfin. Jaxon Griffith would then qualify in the 110m high hurdles in a lifetime-best mark of 15.37 seconds, as Justin Callahan qualified for the 400m hurdles in a new school-record time of 54.13 seconds. Webster City also saw likely at-large qualifiers in Justin Callahan in the 400m dash, placing 3rd in a time of 50.30, while the 4×400 placed 3rd in a time of 3:25.27 with the team of Stroner-Murillo Delfin-Hansen-Callahan, the fastest non-AQ time in the Class.
Webster City’s girls would also place 4th in the meet with a total off 78 points, and auto-qualified 4 events as well. The Lynx would win the sprint medley in a school-record time of 1:50.30 with the team of Hartnett-Weinschenk-Hansen-Grossoehme, as the Webster City shuttle hurdle would then qualify in a season-best time of 1:09.81 with the team of VanDeer-Hartnett-Wright-Hansen. Izzy Grossoehme would follow with 2 individual events, winning the 400m dash in a season-best time of 58.90 seconds, before qualifying in the 200m dash in a lifetime-best mark of 26.83 seconds. Amanda Lahr likely secured an at-large berth in the girls shot put, placing 5th in the tough field with a throw of 37′ 5″.
Lynx athletes will compete at Drake Stadium for the 2026 Iowa High School State Track and Field Championships beginning on Thursday afternoon.
