Roland-Story, South Hamilton, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, Eagle Grove boys track compete in 2A SQM in Story City

STORY CITY, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen, South Hamilton Hawks, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys and Eagle Grove Eagles track teams returned to action on Thursday afternoon, as Roland-Story hosted a Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Dallas Kray Track. The Norsemen, Hawks, Cowboys and Eagles were joined by Greene County, Grundy Center, Iowa Falls-Alden, Ogden, South Hardin, Van Meter, West Marshall and Woodward-Granger.

Roland-Story would finish 2nd in the meet with 121 points, qualifying a number of events to next week’s state meet. Cody Long started the auto-qualifier train by winning the long jump with a season-best mark of 21′ 10″, before Corben Lucchesi qualified for the 3200m run in a time of 10:22.74. The Norsemen shuttle hurdle then won in a season-best time of 1:01.75 with the team of C. Long-Jonas-B. Long-Strum, before Tristen Crabbs qualified in the 100m dash in a time of 11.36 seconds. Roland-Story then qualified their 4×200 relay in a time of 1:31.34 with the team of Kilstofte-Thoreson-Triggs-Crabbs, before Jayden Strum qualified in the 110m High Hurdles in a time of 15.02 seconds. Tristen Crabbs would then auto-qualify in his 2nd individual event, placing 2nd in the 200m dash in 22.44, before the Norsemen 4×100 won in a time of 44.07 with the team of Kilstofte-Triggs-Long-Crabbs.

South Hamilton placed 10th in the meet with a total of 24 points, as their top placer was junior Jesus Garcia, who finished 3rd in the 3200m run in a time of 10:23.29, which puts him in position for an at-large bid to the state track meet. Garcia also placed 4th in the 1600m run in a time of 4:48.11. Junior Davien Henderson placed 4th in the shot put with a lifetime best throw of 45′ 2.75″, as Titus Herrick was 8th in the discus with a throw of 139′ 11″.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows placed 11th with 16 points, as the Cowboys had a number of 6th place finishes. Huxley Lingenfelter placed 6th in the discus with a throw of 145′ 5″, as Colin Sesker placed 6th in the high jump, clearing 5′ 6″. CGD’s sprint medley placed 6th in 1:41.23 with the team of Downing-Campbell-Hernandez Ordonez-Lingenfelter.

Eagle Grove placed 12th with 15 points, as Gavin Pedersen placed 7th in the discus with a lifetime-best throw of 142′ 1″, as Leelan Spencer placed 7th in the 100m dash in a time of 11.64 seconds. Asarel Castro placed 7th in the 400m dash in a lifetime-best mark of 54.46 seconds, while the Eagles 4×200 placed 7th in 1:38.26 with the team of Vasquez-Nielsen-Eisentrager-Spencer.

Norsemen and Hawk athletes who qualified for the state meet will compete at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, beginning on Thursday afternoon.
