WOODWARD, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen track and field teams returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip into Dallas County to compete in the annual Hugh Cavanaugh Relays at Uthe Field in Woodward. The Norsemen were joined by the host Hawks, as well as Ankeny Centennial, Des Moines Christian, Grand View Christian, Martensdale-St. Marys, Nevada, Nodaway Valley, North Polk, PCM, Perry and Woodward Academy.
Roland-Story’s boys would emerge as meet champions, winning with a total of 119 points, 7.5 more than 2nd place Nevada. The Norsemen boys had a number of winners, first coming from the long jump as Cody Long won with a mark of 21′ 1″, followed by the Norsemen shuttle hurdle winning in a time of 1:06.60 with the team of Barber-Jonas-B. Long-C. Long. Tristen Crabbs would then win the 100m dash in a time of 11.36 seconds, as the Norsemen 4×200 won in a time of 1:31.66 with the quartet of Kilstofte-Thoreson-Triggs-Crabbs as Jayden Strum had the final win of the night in the 110m high hurdles in a time of 15.49.

Roland-Story’s girls would also claim a meet title, winning with 123 points, 4 points better than runner-up Des Moines Christian. The Norse’s first title came in the discus, as Miley Geise won with a throw of 111′ 9″, as the Norse shuttle hurdle then claimed a victory in a time of 1:07.96 with the team of Rechkemmer-Lucas-Jondle-Helgeson. Taylor Rechkemmer then won the 100m hurdles in a time of 16.81 seconds, as Selah Helgeson placed 2nd in a time of 17.05 seconds.
Roland-Story boys track and field returns to action on Monday, when they compete in the Southeast Valley Invitational in Gowrie beginning at 4:30 PM. Roland-Story girls track and field returns to action on Tuesday, when they compete in the Madrid Invitational in Madrid, beginning at 4:30 PM.
