South Hamilton basketball swept in doubleheader by Roland-Story

The South Hamilton Hawks returned to the hardwood on Tuesday night, when they hosted long-time Heart of Iowa Conference rivals Roland-Story. The Norsemen girls entered with a 12-4 record and ranked #7 in Class 3A, while the Norsemen boys entered with a 16-2 record and atop the Heart of Iowa standings.

The 7th-ranked Norsemen girls wasted little time in getting things rolling in this critical conference matchup, as they raced out to a 14-5 lead after the first quarter, and more than doubled their point total in the 2nd quarter, as they led 32-16. Nine Norsemen three-pointers helped bury the Hawks in the 2nd half as Roland-Story picked up a big 62-38 win over their cross-county rival. Madi Bauer led the way for the Norsemen with 17 points.

The boys game took much longer to decide, as following their 74-30 blowout to Nevada, South Hamilton responded by taking it to the Norsemen early, and were tied at 9 after the first. Roland-Story was able to push the lead to 10 at halftime, but the Hawks kept close by, only trailing by 8 headed into the final frame. However, the hot shooting of Isaiah Naylor and backup guard Boaz Clark buried the Hawks in the 4th, as Roland-Story picked up 62-38 win.

Next action for South Hamilton will be Friday, when they host West Marshall. Roland-Story will host PCM on Friday night in Story City.
