The Webster City Lynx made the short trip west on old Highway 20 on Tuesday, to face off with the Gaels of Fort Dodge, St. Edmond in North Central Conference Play. The Gael girls entered with an 0-17 record, while the Gael boys entered with a 7-10 record.
The girls game kicked things off at 6:15 with Webster City looking for the season sweep of the winless Gaels, but it didn’t come without some tough work. The Gaels led 9-6 after the first quarter, extended to 15-9 by halftime. Then Lynx then began to storm back, dominating the 3rd quarter to tie it at 19, before a 17-point 4th quarter gave the Lynx a 36-31 win.
The boys followed as Webster City looked to keep their profile high in the NCC before postseason play rolls around, but even the last-place Gaels bring the fire in the gauntlet of NCC boys basketball. The Lynx held an 8-7 lead after one, before extending it to a 20-15 halftime lead. The Gaels never allowed the Lynx to gain separation, taking the game down to the final minutes, where strong defense, and the clutch play of Ty McKinney sealed a 40-35 win for the Lynx.
Next action for Webster City will be on Friday, when they host Iowa Falls-Alden.
