Webster City- A total of 1,886 votes were counted in Tuesday’s Primary Election in Hamilton County. The votes came from the absentee ballots and from the five precincts around the county. There are 9,600 registered voters in Hamilton County. A Kamrar man came out the winner in the race for Iowa House District 55. Beau Klaver was the choice for the GOP as he garnered 1,048 votes in Hamilton County. Klaver was challenged by Kurtis Bower of Roland as he received 135 votes in the unofficial returns. There were 88 votes for Brian Young of rural Stratford however Young dropped out of the race earlier this spring. Klaver’s Democratic challenger this November will be Cynthia Oppedal Paschen. She was unopposed as she received 524 votes from Hamilton County Democrats. House District 55 represents all of Franklin and Hamilton Counties and parts of Story and Wright Counties.
In the other Republican races,all of the candidates for the county elected officials are unopposed in Hamilton County. Rick Young received 428 votes for District 3 Supervisor. Supervisor District 3 represents the southern eight townships in Hamilton County. Matt Matteson received 1,148 votes for Hamilton County Treasurer. Kim Anderson received 1,176 votes for Hamilton County Recorder. In the Republican Primary for Governor, Zach Lahn received 558 votes, Randy Feenstra had 509 votes last night. Other Republicans for Governor included Adam Steen with 133 votes, Brad Sherman with 58 votes and Eddie Andrews with 33 votes. In the Republican U.S. Senate race, Ashley Hinson received 974 votes with her challenger Jim Carlin with 290 votes. In the U.S. Representative District 4 race, Chris McGowan received 1,116 votes from the Hamilton County Republicans Tuesday.
In the Democratic races of Tuesday, Bridget A. Chambers was unopposed for Hamilton County Attorney as she received 516 votes. Bridget Chambers will succeed current Hamilton County Attorney Patrick Chambers in the November election as he will be stepping down at the end of this year. Josh Turek came away as the winner in the U.S. Senate race for the Democrats. He received 383 votes with Zach Wahls receiving 183 votes from Hamilton County Democrats. In the race for the U.S. House District 4, Dave Dawson garnered 197 votes to win in the Democratic race last night. Dawson was challenged by Ashley WolfTornabane with 187 votes and Stephanie Steiner with 149 votes. Democrat Rob Sand received 563 votes in Hamilton County.
The stage is set for the November 3rd General Election. Republican Beau Klaver will face Democrat Cynthia Oppedal Paschen for the Iowa House District 55 seat replacing Shannon Latham. For the U.S. Senate it will be Republican Ashley Hinson to challenge Democrat Josh Turek in the contest to succeed current U.S. Senator Joni Ernst of Red Oak. The race for Governor this year will feature Republican Zach Lahn to face Democrat Rob Sand in the seat that has been held by current Governor Kim Reynolds. The Fourth District U.S. House will feature Republican Chris McGowan and Democrat Dave Dawson. This is the seat that currently belongs to Randy Feenstra of Hull. The Fourth District covers much of the western part of Iowa including Hamilton, Webster and Wright Counties.
