Webster City Park and Recreation Commission look at recent projects and the plans for the summer at the outdoor pool.

Webster City- The Webster City Park and Recreation Commission on Thursday afternoon reviewed recent projects by its staff. The Fuller Hall landscaping project finished up last Friday. Local park and recreation director Breanne Lesher said city park staff removed all the plants from the Fuller Hall grounds, taking the drain tile out and installing a new one. The drain has been regraded and hydroseeded. There are also plans to put in a 2 foot river rock bed along the windows of the weight room,pending on mowing and trimming at Fuller Hall. At Nokomis Park,the dirt work has been regraded and hydroseeded. There are plans to work to build new roofs for the dugouts for the middle part of June at Nokomis Park at the conclusion of the youth recreation season.Webster City’s splash pad at East Twin Park will be opening for the season starting today,May 22nd through the Labor Day weekend daily from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. Work the disc golf course will begin in the next few weeks.

The numbers for youth summer sports were announced Thursday. Baseball for kindergarten through 3rd grade will have 75 participants in Webster City. Kindergarten through 3rd grade softball will have 55 participants this season. T-ball for the preschool will have 78 youngsters for this season.

June 1st will mark the opening day for the outdoor pool season. The hours for the season will be 10 a.m. until 11:30 for private swim lessons with public swim lessons starting at 9 in the morning. Adult lap swimming this season will be daily from 11:30 until 1:00 a.m. Open swimming will be from 1:00 until 7:00 p.m. daily during June and July. The open swimming hours in August will be from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m.. The hours are cut back due to many of the lifeguards involved with sports practice for the fall sports season.Red Cross swimming lessons will be offered June 8th through 19th. There will be special nights of activities at the outdoor pool with a Hawaiian Night theme on June 19th and a Pirate Night on July 17th with swimming from 5 until 8 p.m. There will be information to come from the parks and recreation staff.
