Webster City baseball downs Ballard in 5 innings, 12-2

WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Thursday evening, as they hosted the Ballard Bombers in non-conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City entered with a record of 3-0, while Ballard entered at 1-0.

Ballard was able to manufacture a run in the top of the 1st on an RBI groundout, before Webster City added 2 runs in the bottom of the frame of a Carter Mickelson 2-run RBI single to put the Lynx ahead 2-1. The Lynx would add on to the lead in the 2nd with a Braylon Dyvig RBI Groundout, followed by a Matt Tesdahl 2-run RBI double as the Lynx led 5-1. Ballard would answer with a bases-loaded walk in the 3rd to make it 5-2, but Webster City would open the flood gates in the 4th, scoring runs off an error, a Braylon Dyvig 2-run RBI single and a Matt Tesdahl RBI double as the Lynx took a 9-2 lead. Webster City would then add 3 runs in the 5th off an Alex Staley RBI single, a Braylon Dyvig and RBI single, and finally a Matt Tesdahl RBI single to walk-off a 12-2, 5-inning victory.

Braylon Dyvig was the winning pitcher, throwing all 5 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and struck out 4. Dyvig also went 2-for-3 with 4 RBI, as senior Matt Tesdahl went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI.

Webster City baseball returns to action on Saturday, when they compete at the Waterloo Bucks Tournament in Waterloo.
