Ellsworth City Council planning a proposed increase in water rates this year.

Ellsworth- During their meeting on Monday evening, the Ellsworth City Council voted to move forward with proposed increase in water rates. The city staff will begin the process of amending the current water ordinance and to have the necessary proposed hearing and reading dates ready by the next council meeting on May 26th. The Ellsworth City Council voted to deny the Dental Facility proposal from Dr. Kaushik Ragam and agreed to the sign the letter of intent for the facility.

Plans for the Ellsworth Farmers Market were discussed by Jessica Lowe with the city council. A request for the use of sidewalks on the west side of Dewitt Street downtown this summer on Wednesdays starting June 3rd through October 28th. Lowe also requested the use of the Ellsworth Community Center for a winter/holiday indoor market on Saturday, December 12th from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The vendors will assist with the setup of tables and chairs for Bingo that day. The Ellsworth City Council approved the request from Lowe for both the Farmers Market and indoor market events.

The date of May 26th was set for a public hearing for the application for a state revolving fund loan and to make available to the public the contents of an environmental information document and the city’s project plan. The hearing on May 26th begins at 6 p.m. in the Ellsworth City Hall.

A request from Trinity Lutheran Church of Ellsworth to use the park shelter building this summer for Sunday morning worship activities. The Ellsworth City Council adopted the ten-year land use plan from the Iowa State University College of Design. Ellsworth mayor Barry Anksorus approved a pass-through invoice for the new transformer installation for Dollar General this week. The City of Ellsworth will send an invoice out to the developer.
