The Webster City Lynx and Eagle Grove Eagles softball teams returned to action on Thursday, as the former and now-future NCC foes faced off in non-conference action at Greenwood Park in Eagle Grove. Webster City entered at 5-16, while Eagle Grove entered at 15-9.
Webster City would plate a pair of runs in the top of the 1st, as Eagle Grove responded with a run of their own in the bottom half as the Lynx led 2-1 after one inning. Webster City would add a run each in the 2nd and 3rd, as Eagle Grove put up a run in the 4th to bring the score to 4-2. Following a scoreless 5th, the Lynx and Eagles traded a run in the 6th, followed by trading 2 runs each in the 7th as Webster City held on for a 7-5 victory.
For Webster City, freshman Morgan Tempel would go 3-for-4 with an RBI, Morgan Hackbarth went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI, while Breanna Bahrenfuss went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI. Jakaela Cherry picked up the win, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 11 hits and struck out 5.
For Eagle Grove, Lily Locke went 3-for-4 with an RBI, Salem Willard went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Addy Jeske went 3-for-4. Mya Morgan pitched the complete game, allowing 7 runs (3 earned) on 13 hits and struck out 4.
Webster City softball returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Harcourt to take on the Southeast Valley Jaguars in non-conference action with first pitch at 7 PM. Eagle Grove softball returns to action on Thursday, when they host Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in their Class 3A, Region 4 first round game at Greenwood Park, with first pitch at 7 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
