Eagle Grove’s Anderson, Webster City’s Pulis qualify for girls state wrestling

Friday marked Super Regionals in Iowa Girls High School Wrestling, and the KQ-Radio area will send a pair of athletes to this weekend’s state tournament at XTreme Arena in Coralville.

Eagle Grove’s Jaymie Anderson will return to the state tournament, as she placed 2nd at 125 pounds. Anderson, 32-4 on the season, fell to South Winneshiek’s Kadyn Meyer in a 15-2 major decision in the title match. Before that, she pinned North Central’s Claire Rye in the 2nd round, pinned Waukon’s Jada Bushaw in the quarterfinals, and pinned Osage’s Melanie Bruesewitz in the semifinals. Anderson received the 12-seed in this weekend’s state tournament at 125 and will wrestle Ottumwa’s Maravilha Vedina in the first round.

Webster City senior Maddie Pulis would also qualify for the state tournament by placing 2nd at 170 pounds for Fort Dodge. Pulis would barely miss out on a regional title, losing an 8-7 decision to Algona’s Reagan Haynes in the title match. Pulis pinned Glenwood’s Lydia Logan in the quarterfinals, followed by winning a 10-0 major decision over Ridge View’s Daynia Werner in the semifinals. Pulis received the 11-seed in this weekend’s state tournament and will face Cedar Rapids Prairie’s Camryn Cothrell in the first round.
