The Roland-Story Norsemen and South Hamilton Hawks girls track teams made the trip south to the Des Moines Metro on Thursday evening, to compete in the Heart of Iowa Conference track meet at Saydel High School in Des Moines. The Hawks and Norsemen were joined by the host Eagles, as well as Greene County, Nevada, PCM, Perry and West Marshall.
It turned out to be a banner night for the Roland-Story girls, starting off with the field events as Adalyn Sporleder took home gold with a throw of 16′ 5.5″. Action then moved to the track as the Norsemen won the sprint medley in a time of 1:53.82 with the team of Sporleder-Faber-Petersen-Kilstofte, before Claire Truesdell claimed the 3000m title, winning in a mark of 11:46.78. The next win for Roland-Story would come in the 100m dash, where sophomore Kamryn Lande won in a time of 13.15, Lande would follow that up with a win in the 200m dash as well, in a time of 26.62. Sandwiched in between was a dominant win the 4×200 relay, as the Norsemen posted a time of 1:47.44 with the quartet of Sporleder-Petersen-Faber-Lande. The wins would conclude for the Norsemen as Claire Truesdell picked up her 2nd win of the night, winning the girls 1500m run in a time of 5:22.67.
The South Hamilton girls were unable to pick up a win on Thursday, but did pick up a handful of 2nd place finishes. Freshman Daytona Ferrie continued her improvement in the discus, placing runner-up with a throw of 98′ 8.75″. This was followed up with a 2nd place finish in the sprint medley in a time of 1:54.03 with the team of Barkema-Flaugh-Thompson-Erickson. Kate Barkema would follow by placing 2nd in the 100m dash in a time of 13.38, while Olivia Beaune brought in the final 2nd place finish, placing runner-up in the 1500m run in a time of 5:27.05.
South Hamilton would place 5th with 85 points, Roland-Story repeated as conference champions with 150 points on the night. Full meet results can be found online at aatiming.com.
