Stratford City Council looks at drainage issues in the community.

Stratford-A lengthy discussion was held Monday evening on drainage issues in the town of Stratford. The Stratford City Council heard from council member Clark Conklin on putting together a sub-committee to look at the smoke testing that was done earlier this year and see if they can find a cross connection between the sanitary sewer and the storm sewer.  There was discussion by a Stratford resident on a problem by the Stratford sub-station that is being looked into by Midland Power. There is also a drain tile to the east that the county is looking into that takes large part of the city’s water. The council understands that there are drainage issues in Stratford. A subcommittee was set up to get an engineer involved into looking at the drainage issue matters. The council also approved having an engineer look into a Splash Pad and on getting rid of the baby pool.

The Stratford City Council approved plans to apply for a grant for the purchase of lifeguard umbrellas for the swimming pool, swim lesson equipment, and shades for the baby pool.

Catherine Bergman spoke to the council stating that she is looking to get an Arbor committee back up and running. There will be representatives from the Iowa DNR at 8:00 a.m. to put together a new tree inventory. The inventory will help let the city know what they have for trees so there will be an application for grants to replace them to be taken down. An Alliant Energy grant is due this November.

In another matter, there was a short discussion with the council concerning auditing services. At their meeting in June of this year, it was suggested that the City of Stratford look into using the auditing service that Hamilton County uses. Stratford city officials did look into them, however, the auditing firm was not interested in taking on new clients at this time. Council members will look at nearby communities on the auditing firms that serve these cities.
