Due to the absence of Hamilton County Supervisor April Ely at their Tuesday morning meeting, the board tabled action on the Briggs Woods Conference Center issue until June 23rd. There was a meeting last week in the courthouse downstairs board that was well attended from a cross section of Hamilton County residents learning of the financial situation of the center. Beginning August 1st, the in-house food service at Briggs Woods Conference Center will cease its operations. All food service will be catered for wedding parties, conferences and other events. The conference center is not closing. Five full-time food service employees and part time kitchen staff will see their jobs eliminated as of August 1st. The Briggs Woods Conference Center will honor all reservations for meetings after the August 1st date. The Briggs Woods Center is expected to lose $275,000 in taxpayer’s money at the end of the fiscal year on July 1st.
The Hamilton County Supervisors approved the appointment of Dawn Mark to the Williams Public Library Board of Trustees. In other personnel matters, the board accepted the retirement of Rhonda Pruismann from her duties at the Hamilton County Attorney’s office with a change of status for Joanna Mitchell was accepted with the Hamilton County Attorney’s Office. The resignation from Addison McMurray as a dispatcher from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department. Nathan Ross was hired as the assistant engineer with the Hamilton County Engineer’s office. Ashley Throntveit was acknowledged as the new operations manager for the Hamilton County Conservation office beginning in early July.
There was the approval of the modified 28E agreement with Webster County with the Hamilton County Attorney’s office along with the lease of the Public Defender’s office to be located in the Shashi Station Building on Collins Street. Liquor Licenses were approved for the T A Express truck stop and the Pilot Travel Center both located southwest of Williams.
A resolution for the Bridge Farm Addition on the south edge of Webster City was approved by the board. The date of June 23rd was set for a public hearing on the 2026 multi-jurisdictional hazard mitigation plan. Work on Hamilton County Road R-77 is nearing completion with the project to wrap up by the end of this week. Work on Hamilton County Road R-61 still remains closed due to culvert work south of Ellsworth. It is hoped the work with be completed in the next three to four weeks.
