AMES, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks cross country team returned to action on Thursday, as they competed at the Gilbert Cross Country Invitational at the Iowa State University Cross Country Course in Ames. The Hawks were joined by the host Tigers, as well as AC/GC, ADM, Bondurant-Farrar, Boone, Carlisle, Clear Creek-Amana, Des Moines Christian, Earlham, Forest City, Madrid, Nevada, North Polk, Pella, Pella Christian, Sioux Center, Solon, Van Meter, West Marshall and Winterset.
South Hamilton’s boys placed 17th with a total of 437 points, as senior Jesus Garcia was 21st in 17:17.76, while senior Hayden Hill was 78th in a time of 18:32. Jackson Olmstead was 92nd in 19:02.35, Jacob Lutjen was 137th in 20:35.46, as Blake Main rounded out scoring in 154th with a time of 21:53.10.
The Hawk girls placed 19th as a team with a total of 594 points, as their top placer was junior Jillian Bentley, who placed 109th in a time of 24:05.22, while senior Cici Herrick was 132nd in 25:32.38. Sophomore Lexi Mathes was 161st, Rosemary Chamness was 163rd, while Laurel Johnson rounded out scoring in 164th.
South Hamilton cross country returns to action on September 22nd, when they run at the West Marshall Invitational at Lincoln Valley Golf Course in State Center, beginning at 5:45 PM.
