STORY CITY, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Monday evening, as they hosted the Saydel Eagles for a Heart of Iowa Conference doubleheader at Norsemen Field in Story City. Roland-Story entered at 15-0 and ranked #2 in Class 2A, as Saydel entered at 7-2 and ranked #7 in Class 3A.
Game 1 saw Saydel jump on Roland-Story early, behind 2 runs in the first and 4 runs in the 2nd to take a 6-0 lead. After Saydel added a run in the 4th, Roland-Story got on the board with a Chance Georgius solo home run in the 4th to make it 7-1. Saydel would add a run in the 5th, followed by 3 runs in the 6th to make it 11-1. However, Roland-Story rallied for 2 runs in the 6th on a Chance Georgius RBI double and a Jake Knoll RBI single to make it 11-3, before scoring 2 more runs on a Chance Georgius RBI single in the 7th, but the comeback bid fell short in an 11-5 loss.
Cael Faber took the loss on the mound, allowing 6 runs on 7 hits and struck out 1 in 2 innings of work. Chance Georgius did put together a monster game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run, double and 4 RBI, as Jake Knoll went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Game 2 would be a flip of the script, as while Saydel put up 2 runs in the first off a home run, Roland-Story answered with an Aiden Frey lead off home run in the 1st, followed by a 10-run 2nd inning. Scores in that 10-run second inning came from a Cooper Triggs 3-run home run, a Collin Willis RBI fielder’s choice, a Braden Wallace 2-run RBI double, a passed ball, a Gavin Jeter sac fly, a Cooper Triggs RBI double and an Aiden Frey RBI single to put the Norsemen ahead 11-2. Roland-Story added onto the lead with a Jake Knoll 2-run RBI double in the 3rd and a Braden Wallace RBI single in the 4th to cap a 14-2, 5-inning victory.
Ryan Kepley picked up the win on the mound, pitching 2 innings and allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 2 hits and striking out 3. Cooper Triggs had the top game at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run and 4 RBI, as Aiden Frey went 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBI.
