EAGLE GROVE, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles softball team returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals in Top of Iowa West action at Greenwood Park. The Eagles entered at 6-2, while the Cardinals entered at 3-4.
Eagle Grove would pounce on the Cardinals early behind a 5-run first, with a Holly Anderson 2-run RBI double, a Lily Locke RBI double, a passed ball and a Chloe Schultz RBI single. GHV answered with 2 runs in the 2nd, before Eagle Grove added 3 more runs in the 2nd off a passed ball, a bases-loaded walk and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch to take an 8-2 lead. That Eagle Grove lead grew more in the 3rd, scoring 2 runs off a pair of errors, before GHV scored 3 runs in the top of the 4th to make it 10-5. Eagle Grove’s bats then came to life again in the bottom of the 4th, scoring off a Chloe Schultz RBI double, an error, followed by 3 consecutive bases-loaded walks as Eagle Grove walked off a 15-5, 4-inning victory.
Chloe Schultz would go 2-for-2 with a double and 3 RBI, Lily Locke would go 2-for-2 with a double and 2 RBI, while Myka Anderson and Crystal Flores combined to score 7 runs. Johanna Flores Baez was the winning pitcher, going 4 innings and allowing 5 runs on 7 hits.
Eagle Grove softball returns to action on Wednesday, as they travel to Swea City to take on the (1A) #14 North Union Warriors in Top of Iowa West action, with first pitch slated for 6 PM.
