Webster City- The Memorial Day weekend was a successful one for the three county parks of Hamilton County. On Thursday, Hamilton County Conservation director Brian Lammers said that many of the campgrounds at Bells Mill near Stratford, Briggs Woods south of Webster City and Little Wall Lake south of Jewell were full of campers to mark the start of the camping season. It is hoped the momentum will continue for the summer season ahead. The conservation board welcome Ashley Throntveit as the new office manager starting in early July. Throntveit succeeds Lori Westrum who is retiring after 23 years as conservation office manager. Her last day will be on July 2nd.
The season at the Briggs Woods Golf Course is off to a good start for golfers. The Hamilton County Conservation Board approved a five-year agreement with Karl Chevrolet for the sponsorship of a beverage cart at the Briggs Woods course to be used for golf tournaments and weekend events this summer. The cart will arrive sometime this next week.
In other matters at Thursday’s meeting, the Hamilton C0unty Conservation Board learned of plans for the REAP regional conservation meeting set for Thursday, July 9th to be held this year at the Matt Cosgrove River’s Edge Discovery Center located in Fort Dodge from 12 noon until 2:00 p.m. REAP stands for Resource Enhancement and Protection. REAP is responsible for the enhancement and protection of the state’s natural and cultural resources. The meeting is open to the public.
Next weekend brings the Free Fishing Weekend to Iowa. The annual Cops and Bobbers Fishing Derby is set for Saturday, June 6th at Briggs Woods Lake starting at 9:00 until 11;00 for a morning of family fishing fun. Registration for Cops and Bobbers will begin at 8:30 at the beach shelter of Briggs Woods Park. In case of inclement weather, the derby will be held on Sunday,June 7th.
The next scheduled meeting for the Hamilton County Conservation Board is set for June 25th at 9:30 at the conservation office at Briggs Woods Park south of Webster City.
