Grant Young appointed to Stanhope City Council and possible changes to law enforcement for Stanhope.

Grant Young was sworn in as the newest member of the Stanhope City Council during a meeting last week. Both Young and Robert Johnson addressed those attending the council meeting about themselves and on why they want to serve. The council approved the nomination of Young. He will take over the seat previously held by Mindy Hetland. The term for Grant Young ends in December 2027 on the Stanhope City Council.

The Stanhope City Council learned that Stanhope will no longer be involved with the EJS Police Department at the end of the 2025-26 Fiscal Year. On July 1st, the law enforcement organization will revert back to the Ellsworth Jewell Police Department. Stanhope City Council member Jill Haman asked if a compromise would offer a solution to the issue. Stanhope mayor Jeff Schroeder agreed to work with Haman to come up with a revision to the proposed 28 E agreement that would take effect on July 1,2026. Further discussion will be discussed at the May Stanhope City Council meeting.

The date of May 27th was set for two public hearings at the Stanhope Community Building. The first one is for the proposed budget for the Fiscal Year 2026-27 set for 5:00 p.m. The second is to amend the current budget for the Fiscal Year 2025-26 that ends on June 30th,2026.

Four resolutions were all approved by the Stanhope City Council. They include adopting the Hamilton County multi-jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan, certifying to the county for the collection of unpaid utility bills, a resolution regarding residential digging, and assessing fees for Ordinance Abatement.
