The search is underway to find a new city council member for Stanhope. At a meeting last week, the Stanhope City Council accepted the resignation of Mindy Hetland. The council plans to appoint a successor for Hetland. Applications may be submitted to the city clerk.
Devin Hensley was appointed as the Stanhope representative to the EJS (Ellsworth Jewell Stanhope) Police Board. Stanhope Mayor Jeff Schroeder was appointed to the Ioway Creek Water Management Authority. There was a discussion on a conflict of interest regarding the Hometown Pride program. Stanhope Mayor Jeff Schroeder informed the council that a future conflict of interest may arise with Stanhope council member Beau Jensen as he owns several properties in Stanhope. An Affidavit of Conflict of Interest was drafted by city attorney Zach Chizek. Jensen will not vote or participate in any future activity that involves his properties or would benefit him personally.
The Stanhope City Council spoke with Grant Young of the Stanhope Lions Club for a park cement proposal. The club have funds available to add two cement slabs in the Stanhope City Park. The cement slabs would be beneficial to various rides on Watermelon Day on July 18th and would have a multi-purpose for the remaining days of the year. The Stanhope City Council approved the request from the Stanhope Lions for the cement slab work.
The dates of May 2nd was set for Stanhope Garage Sale Day and May 9th for the Stanhope Clean-up Day. Stanhope City Council members approved an increase of $2.50 an hour for the city clerk. and City Maintenance will see an increase of $1.00. The increase is far less than the monthly insurance premium stipend that was offered to staff in the past.
April 14th was set for the 2026-27 Budget Certification hearing for Stanhope. The council approved an ordinance for Stanhope’s participation in the Hometown Pride program.
