WEBSTER CITY, IA │ Van Diest Medical Center (VDMC) in Webster City is one of just nine Iowa hospitals to receive 5-stars from the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) for patient experience for 2026, according to information released from Becker’s Hospital Review.
Nationwide, 250 hospitals received a 5-star rating. CMS calculates patient survey star ratings from the Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems survey, which captures patients’ experiences during a recent hospital stay. A five-star mark is the highest rating on the survey’s overall hospital rating measure. The data was last updated July 22 and made public Aug. 13, and reflects surveys collected Oct. 1, 2024, through Sept. 30, 2025.
In addition to VDMC, Iowa hospitals awarded the 2026 five-star rating for patient experience, included Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Compass Memorial Healthcare at Marengo, Lakes Regional Healthcare of Spirit Lake, Orange City Area Health System, Regional Medical Center of Manchester, Sioux Center Health, Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon and Waverly Health Center.
In May 2026, CMS announced that VDMC is also among seven Iowa hospitals awarded 5-stars for overall experience. The ratings, updated May 13, reflect a hospital’s performance across five quality measures: mortality, safety, readmission, patient experience, and timely and effective care. According to Becker’s Review, other hospitals awarded the 5-Star overall experience rating were Cass County Memorial Hospital, CHI Health Mercy Council Bluffs, Clarke County Hospital, Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City VA Medical Center and Waverly Health Center.
