Webster City basketball splits NCC doubleheader with St. Edmond

The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Gaels of Fort Dodge, St. Edmond in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City’s girls entered with a record of 0-13, while Webster City’s boys entered at 2-9.

The Lynx girls looked to avenge a early-season loss to the Gaels, but it was St. Edmond that came out of the gates strong, leading 12-3 after the first quarter, a lead that was built up to 22-7 by halftime. The 3rd quarter saw the Lynx offense come alive, putting up 15 points and holding St. Edmond to 3 to bring the score to 25-22. The two sides would trade blows in the 4th quarter, but it was St. Edmond that would come out on top with the 42-35 win. Olivia Gallentine had a game-high 16 points for the Lynx, while Marissa Hedeen had 8 points.

Webster City’s boys followed, also looking to avenge an early-season loss to St. Edmond, and took a 15-14 lead after the first quarter, a lead that would be extended to 30-22 at halftime. The going only got better for Brett Ratcliff’s squad in the second half, outscoring the Gaels 20-9 in the 3rd quarter to take a 50-31 lead, before closing out a 62-44 win. Briar Klaver led the Lynx with 26 points and 5 rebounds, while Braden Doering added 18 points. Hunter Horn had a game-high 30 points for St. Edmond.

Webster City basketball returns to action with the girls hosting Iowa Falls-Alden on Thursday night at Jefferson Gym at 7:45 PM, while the boys return against Clarion-Goldfield-Dows on Friday night in Clarion.
