The Webster City Lynx football team hit the road on Friday night, as they made the trip into Floyd County to take on the Charles City Comets in Class 3A, District 2 action at Charles City High School. Webster City entered at 4-2 and 1-1 in the district, while Charles City entered at 3-3 and 0-2 in the district.
The Lynx would be without all-state running back Jaxon Cherry in this game, but that didn’t pose a problem as following an opening drive stop, Webster City drove down and punched in a 2-yard touchdown run by Cael Nixon to make it 6-0 Lynx. Charles City went 3-and-out on the ensuing possession, and Nixon would take the first play of the drive 46 yards for a touchdown to put Webster City up 14-0. The Comets next drive would end early with a Trevyn Lyons interception, which set up a short scoring drive capped off by a 4-yard touchdown run by Cael Nixon to make it 21-0 Lynx. Charles City would put together a mini-drive to start the 2nd quarter, but a turnover on downs gave the ball back to Webster City, as the Lynx drove down the field and punched in a 2-yard touchdown run by Keegan Hisler to make it 28-0 Lynx. Charles City would get on the board on the following drive, thanks to a sensational catch and run by Kaden Littleton on a 71-yard touchdown run to cut the score to 28-6 at the halftime break.
Webster City got the football to start the 2nd half, and wasted little time as wingback Luke Estlund took a counter play 55 yards for a touchdown to put Webster City up 35-6. A couple of drives later, Charles City put together their best march of the night, capped off by a 1-yard touchdown keeper by Jordan Foster to cut the score to 35-13 at the end of the 3rd quarter. The Lynx would respond by marching into Comets territory and punching in Cael Nixon’s 4th touchdown of the night from a yard out to make it 42-13 Webster City. Keegan Hisler would add one more touchdown before the end of the night to give the Lynx a 49-13 win.
