(1A) #9 South Hamilton eviscerates Nodaway Valley on homecoming, 66-14

The South Hamilton Hawks football team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Wolverines of Nodaway Valley at Bill Taylor Field for their homecoming game, in a Class 1A, District 7 showdown. South Hamilton entered at 3-1 and 1-0 in the district, while Nodaway Valley entered at 0-4 and 0-1 in the district.

South Hamilton did not waste time in putting their offense into ludicrous speed. After Nodaway Valley punted on their opening drive, Kolby Hodnefield took the Hawks first play of the night 36 yards for a touchdown to put South Hamilton up 8-0. The Wolverines would punt once more, and this time it took 3 plays before the Hawks found the endzone, as Hodnefield scored on a 50-yard run to make it 14-0. After another Nodaway Valley punt, Nick Severseike took the first play of the ensuing drive 86 yards for a touchdown to put the Hawks up 20-0. The following drive for the Hawks saw them hit the air, as Tjerdan Johnson connected on passes of 36 and 34 yards to Landon Sogard, the second being a touchdown to put South Hamilton up 26-0. Following a 4th down stop, the Hawks got into the endzone again on a 15-yard run by Nick Severseike to put the Hawks up 34-0. South Hamilton would put up 2 more touchdowns in the first half, one off a Landen Greufe 51-yard run to make the score 42-0, and a 32-yard run by Preston Van De Pol, set up by a Noah Gunderson interception, to put South Hamilton 50-0 at the halftime break.

South Hamilton held that 50-0 advantage into the 4th quarter, before Nodaway Valley got on the board with a 2-yard touchdown run by Ashton Honnold to make it 50-6. Freshman running back Maddux Becker would strike on the ensuing drive, breaking off a 50-yard touchdown run to make the score 58-6. Nodaway Valley answered quickly, returning the following kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown, courtesy of Carmine Shaw, to make the score 58-14, before Jose Babcock ended the night with a 64-yard touchdown run to make the final score 66-14.

Nick Severseike and Jose Babcock each crossed the 100-yard threshold, as Severseike had 102 and Babcock had 100, while Kolby Hodnefield finished with 86 yards and 2 touchdowns. South Hamilton, as a team, averaged a staggering 20 yards per carry, with 441 yards rushing on 22 carries.

South Hamilton returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Ogden to take on the Bulldogs in Class 1A, District 7 action at Ogden High School.
