Webster City track competes in 3A District Meet in Gilbert

The Webster City Lynx track teams made the trip south on Thursday afternoon, to compete at the Class 3A, District 6 State Qualifying Meet at Gilbert High School. The Lynx were joined by the host Tigers, Algona, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Humboldt, Iowa Falls-Alden, Nevada and North Polk.

Kicking off with field events, Webster City picked up a double qualifier in the throws, as senior JJ Moore won the shot put and discus with a shot put throw of 56′ 8.75″, and a discus throw of 157′ 2″. Brandon Lahr placed 6th in the shot put with a throw of 45′ 9.25″. Hannah Brandt would place 4th in the girls discus with a throw of 107′ 10″, as Aydsen Poppen and Delaney Kopriva both made finals in shot put, placing 5th and 8th, respectively. In the jumps, Keegan Hisler placed 4th in the high jump, clearing 5′ 8″, while Bonnie Nohrenberg placed 4th in the long jump with a mark of 13′ 11.75″.

In the individual running events, Webster City saw only one automatic state qualifier in sophomore Adeline Tesdahl. Tesdahl won the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:10.09. Jaxon Cherry would place 3rd in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.81, while CJ Hisler was 6th in 12.12 seconds, running into a strong headwind on Thursday. Lynne Roberts was 6th in the girls 100 in a time of 15.07, while McKenzie Mishler and Bonnie Nohrenberg were 4th and 6th in the 100 hurdles in times of 18.73 and 18.98, respectively. Riley LaSourd was able to place 8th in the 400 meter dash in a time of 55.37, while Tristen Maxwell eeked out an 8th place finish in the 800 meter run in a mark of 2:20.98. Jose Ramirez placed 4th in a tough 1600 meter run field, in a time of 4:54.18.

In the relays, the only automatic state qualifier was the boys 4×200 meter relay, placing 2nd in a time of 1:32.19 with the quartet of Jaxon Cherry-Keegan Hisler-Charlie Stansfield-CJ Hisler. The boys 4×100 meter relay and the girls shuttle hurdle relay both placed 3rd in times of 44.92 and 1:15.05, respectively. The boys shuttle hurdle relay placed 4th in a time of 1:09.18, while the girls sprint medley placed 5th in a time of 2:01.33. The girls 4×200 meter relay also placed 5th in a time of 1:56.49, while the girls 4×400 meter relay placed 6th. The boys 4×400, 4×800 and distance medley all placed 7th.

The Webster City boys ended the night in a three-way tie for 6th place with Gilbert and Nevada with 70.5 points a piece. Webster City’s girls placed 8th with 57 points, as North Polk swept the district championships on Thursday.
