OGDEN Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles football team returned to the field on Friday night, as they made the trip south into Boone County to take on the Ogden Bulldogs in non-district action at Ogden High School. Eagle Grove entered with a 1-0 record, while Ogden also entered at 1-0.
Eagle Grove took the football first and drained off over half of the first quarter, scoring on a 2-yard touchdown run from fullback Trenton Robinson to put the Eagles ahead 6-0 after a failed 2 pt. conversion. The Eagle defense would force a punt, before the offense mounted another drive, but penalties would thwart this march as Eagle Grove turned it over on downs, but would hold off the Bulldog offense, forcing a turnover on downs to get the football back. The Eagles would turn this drive into points, as Adrian Whipple scored on a quarterback keeper from 5 yards out just before halftime, as Eagle Grove led 12-0 at the halftime break.
Ogden took the football to start the second half, but had their drive ended by a Carson Lloyd interception to cornerback Cam Sisson, only for Eagle Grove to fumble on their ensuing drive and give Ogden the ball back. However, Eagle Grove’s defense would force a punt and get the football back, as the Eagles then marched down the field to end the quarter, only to score on the first play of the 4th quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by Trenton Robinson to put the Eagles up 20-0 after the 2-point conversion. The Eagle Grove defense would stifle Ogden’s spread attack the remainder of the game as the Eagles posted a 20-0 shutout, as well as their first 2-0 start to a season since 2017.
The Ace Hardware of Webster City Ace of the Game was senior Adrian Whipple, who went 5-for-10 passing for 88 yards, while rushing 15 times for 101 yards and a touchdown. Trenton Robinson carried 23 times of 93 yards and 2 touchdowns, as senior Arturo Reyna Salazar led the Eagles with 7.5 tackles.
Eagle Grove football returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Sheffield to take on the (A) #8 West Fork Warhawks in non-district action at the West Fork Football Complex, beginning at 7 PM.
