URBANDALE, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen football team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip to the west side of the Des Moines metro, to take on the Des Moines Christian Lions in non-district action at Des Moines Christian School in Urbandale. Roland-Story entered at 1-0 and ranked #3 in Class 2A, while Des Moines Christian also entered at 1-0 and ranked #8 in Class 3A.
Des Moines Christian took the football first and would march deep into Norsemen territory, but would come up empty-handed after missing a 31-yard field goal to give Roland-Story their first crack on offense. The Norsemen drove into DMC territory, but two sacks thwarted the drive, only for the Roland-Story defense to deny DMC near midfield to get the football back. After a Norsemen punt, the Lions broke the lid off the game early in the 2nd quarter on an 85-yard touchdown run by Davis Tokheim to put DMC up 7-0. Roland-Story would throw an interception on the ensuing drive, as Tokheim broke loose again, this time on a 56-yard touchdown run as the Lions led 14-0. Roland-Story would then put together a scoring drive, as Colin Willis found Luke Thoreson in the near-corner of the endzone to bring the score to 14-7, but Des Moines Christian would find the endzone once more on Davis Tokheim’s 3rd touchdown of the opening half as the Norsemen trailed 21-7 at the halftime break.
The 2nd half would see very little action, as Roland-Story scored with under 3 minutes to go in the ballgame, as well as converting the 2-point conversion. However, Des Moines Christian was able to successfully run out the clock in a 21-15 victory.
Colin Willis would go 20-for-38 with 207 yards, a touchdown and 2 interceptions, while Luke Thoreson caught 6 passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. Jake Knoll led the Norsemen with 7.5 tackles on the night.
