Webster City wrestling sees strong showing at Don Miller Invitational

The Webster City Lynx wrestlers looked to continue their hot streak with a trip to Fort Dodge to compete in the Don Miller Invitational on Saturday. The Lynx would finish 3rd with 177 points, behind runners-up Ankeny Centennial and champion Creston. Ankeny Centennial finished with 191 points, while Creston won with 195.5 points.

The Lynx had two individual champions on Saturday, as Cam Phextomphone remained undefeated on the season, picking up falls in all three matches he wrestled on Saturday. Sophomore Jaxon Cherry also picked up an individual title at 220 pounds, getting the fall over Creston’s Max Chapman in the title match. Cherry sits at 14-2 on the season.

Webster City picked up a pair of individual runner-up finishes, as Carson Doolittle and CJ Hisler finished 2nd at 113 pounds and 195 pounds respectively. Doolittle won his first two matches by fall, before losing 3A #2 Max Bishop from Fort Dodge in the championship in a 3-1 decision. Hisler picked up a fall in his semifinal match, before being pinned by 1A #3 Matthew Wirtz of Emmetsburg in the title match.

Austin Mason finished 3rd in the 145 pound weight class, going 3-1 on the day. Jordan Vankham and Evan Estlund both finished 5th, while also only recording one loss each on the day at 152 pounds and 170 pounds respectively. Landon Griffin, Dylan Burnette-Bingham, Luke Estlund and Deion Vangkham all finished 6th in their respective weight classes.

Next action for Webster City will be after winter break, when they will travel to Forest City to face off in a dual with the Indians on January 4th.
