Stormy start to Wednesday in Webster City

Webster City saw wind speeds of 76 miles an hour in the first round of storms this morning. Public Works Director Brandon Bahrnefuss says it has been a morning of clean up for residents and the city. *”Several branches and trees that actually pulled on our power lines and blocking the road. So staff has been out early in the morning and continuous this morning taking care of those,” he says. Bahrnefuss  says there were no injuries and they hope to have all the power back on by early afternoon. Hamilton County Sheriff Alex Pruismann  was out in the county inspecting the damage. A lot of trees down right across the street from the sheriff’s office. There’s a full tree that got blown over,” he says, “some people had some fencing damaged. Luckily, nothing major, even though I hate to say the word major, but just no injuries, so that’s good. Just a lot of property damage.” Pruismann says there’s likely going to be more clean up to do. * “The wind’s not going to stop today. It’s supposed to pick up later this afternoon, so I expect some more issues with tree branches, trees, anything that’s not tied down, anything like that could seem with some more issues and problems today,” he says. Forecasters say Iowa is under an elevated risk for severe weather this afternoon, with the possibility of high winds, hail, heavy rain, and tornadoes. (By Pat Powers, KQWC, Webster City)
