‘Avengers: Endgame’: Did Anthony Mackie give ABC Radio hints about his new MCU role?

Marvel Studios(LOS ANGELES) — (SPOILERS AHEAD) After the shocking ending of Avengers: Endgame, where Chris Evans passes on his Captain America torch, figuratively, and shield, literally, to Anthony Mackie’s character Sam “Falcon” Wilson, it appears the flying Avenger may have known Marvel’s Endgame all along.

In an April 2018 interview with ABC Radio, Mackie responded to the possible scenario that he could take on the mantle of Captain America in a future Marvel film, as his character did in the comics.

“For me the idea of becoming Cap would be amazing,” Mackie said. “I mean no one would say, ‘No, I’m not doing that. You take the shield.’ That person will be an idiot.”

Clearly, Mackie is no idiot. After a soft protest, Falcon agrees to the role with the support of his close friend Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan. However, at the time of the interview, Mackie was sure to make clear he wasn’t campaigning for the job either.

“You know I love going to work every day with Sebastian Stan and Chris Evans and — they’re my boys,” he explained. “So, if I get to be Falcon and Chris stays [Captain America] and Sebastian stays Winter Soldier, I’m not mad at that.”

Avengers: Endgame, also starring Robert Downey Jr.Mark RuffaloChris Hemsworth, and Scarlett Johansson, is now in theaters.

Marvel Studios is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.
