JEFFERSON, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norse and South Hamilton Hawks girls track and field teams returned to action on Thursday night, as they competed in the annual Heart of Iowa Conference Championships at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The Norsemen and Hawks were joined by the hosts Greene County, as well as Grand View Christian, Nevada, PCM, Perry, Saydel and West Marshall.
Roland-Story placed 2nd with a total of 134 points, as the Norse had a handful of winners on Thursday. The first win came in the high jump, as sophomore Paige Berggren won by clearing 4′ 10″, as that was followed by a win in the shuttle hurdle with a time of 1:10.78 with the team of M. Helgeson-Scarrow-Jondle-S. Helgeson. The Norse’s final win came in the 100m hurdles, as Selah Helgeson won with a time of 17.12 seconds.

South Hamilton’s girls placed 7th with a total of 50 points, as the Hawks had one winner on Thursday, with junior Tessa Skartvedt winning the discus with a throw of 116′ 6″, a personal-best. Skartvedt placed 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 36′ 8.25″, while the Hawks shuttle hurdle placed 3rd with a time of 1:16.42 with the team of V. Swenson-S. Swenson-A. Moline-M. Moline.
Roland-Story and South Hamilton girls track and field return to action on Thursday, when they compete in their Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Dallas Kray Track in Story City, beginning at 4 PM.
