Roland-Story boys finish runner-up, South Hamilton places 7th at HOIAC Championships

JEFFERSON, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen and South Hamilton Hawks boys track and field teams returned to action on Thursday night, as they competed in the annual Heart of Iowa Conference Championships at Linduska Field in Jefferson. The Norsemen and Hawks were joined by the hosts Greene County, as well as Grand View Christian, Nevada, PCM, Perry, Saydel and West Marshall.

Roland-Story would place 2nd in the meet with a total of 147 points, as the Norsemen crowned a number of champions. Cody Long started things by winning the long jump with a mark of 20′ 6.5″, as Corbin Lucchesi followed by winning the 3200m run in a time of 10:10.58. Roland-Story then won the shuttle hurdle relay in a season-best mark of 1:02.41 with the team of C. Long-Jonas-B. Long-Strum, as Tristen Crabbs immediately followed by winning the 100m dash in a time of 11.03 seconds. Jayden Strum clinched his first individual win, capturing the 110m High Hurdles in a time of 15.19 seconds, before Tristen Crabbs grabbed his second win in the 200m dash, winning with a time of 22.32 seconds. Jayden Strum then won the 400m hurdles in a time of 56.62 seconds, before the Norsemen 4×100 capped the night with a win in a time of 43.82 seconds.

South Hamilton placed 7th in the meet with a total of 37 points, as their top placer was junior Jesus Garcia, who finished 3rd in the 3200m run in a time of 10:16.40, while also placing 5th in the 1600m run in a time of 4:49.21. Ben Swenson placed 5th in the shot put with a throw of 44′ 9″, as Titus Herrick placed 5th in the discus with a throw of 135′ 3″.

Roland-Story and South Hamilton boys track return to action on Thursday, when they compete in their Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Dallas Kray Track in Story City, beginning at 4 PM.
