Ellsworth City Council reviews improvements to the town fire station and wind/hail insurance

Ellsworth-The Ellsworth City Council this week met with Eric Shomo with Shomo Insurance on the current deductible levels on city property for storm damage. Currently, the policy is a percentage of replacement cost-based, which, is the example of the water plant and community center, totals a deductible of over $73,000 for each incident. After discussion, the council approved the wind/hail deductible buy-down policy for $6,705.11 with the Shomo Insurance firm.Ellsworth council members was presented with a second quote for the planned Fiscal Year 2027 improvements to the town’s fire station from Brown Builders of Story City in the amount of $50,563.No action was taken by the council but will be reviewed at a future meeting.

The representatives of the Dump Your Junk event on April 25th reported 91 vehicles came through the line with over 200 tires collected. There were 21 houses that participated in the curbside pickup operation. The Ellsworth City Council thanked the Ellsworth Community Association for their efforts in helping to keep Ellsworth looking its best.

June 26 to 28 will be the dates for the Ellsworth Extravaganza. The weekend will a 5K run, car show, tumbling exhibition and other festivities in the community sponsored by the Ellsworth Community Association. The Ellsworth city council approved the closures of various streets for the weekend celebration next month.

In other matters, the Ellsworth City Council met with Dr. Kaushik Ragan to discuss a proposal of opening a dental and health clinic in Ellsworth. The proposal came with the ask of the city purchasing a parcel and building a Morton building with continued city ownership. Dr. Ragan will outfit the inside of the building with pod-style pop-up dental suites.  The Ellsworth City Council will discuss the request with Dr. Ragan at the May 11th council meeting. It will give council members to do some research about the needs and the benefits of the facility prior to signing the letter of intent for the new dental and health clinic,

Four $500 scholarship applications were received by the City of Ellsworth from South Hamilton high school students. The Bingo scholarships will be awarded during the May 13th South Hamilton Awards assembly.
