Webster City- A public hearing for the water main extension project at Mary Ann’s Specialty Foods was a part of the Tuesday evening agenda for the Webster City City Council meeting. The project is to complete a water main loop to existing city’s water distribution system for the commercial areas on the east of the corporate limits of Webster City off East Second Street. Six firms submitted bids for the work. The lowest bid submitted to the Webster City City Council came from Riley-Armstrong Plumbing and Heating at an amount of $325,728.04. Crews from Riley-Armstrong have done similar projects in Ogden and in Fort Dodge.The firm also worked with Union Pacific Railroad projects in Des Moines and Eagle Grove and in Blue Earth,Minnesota with The Driller,LLC contracting firm.
The Webster City City Council approved a change order for the Fiscal Year 2026 HMA ( Hot Mix Asphalt) Improvement Project with Fort Dodge Asphalt Company for $1,041,633.20 for the asphalt and mill work on Willson Avenue from Ohio to Cedar Streets, Cedar Street from Willson Avenue to Superior Street, Boone Street from Willson Avenue to Superior Street and Elm Street from Superior to River Street.
A resolution was approved authorizing an internal advance of $1,250,ooo from the Economic Development Fund to the Riverview TIF (Tax Increment Fund). The advance provides immediate funding for key urban renewal projects identified in the expanded Webster City Urban Renewal Area Plan, including targeted downtown revitalization and nuisance abatement initiatives for Webster City. The advance will be repaid without interest through incremental property tax revenues generated within the Riverview TIF district.
Webster City mayor John Hawkins signed a proclamation for Doodlebug Week next week in Webster City from September 14th to 19th. This year marks the 40the annual reunion celebrating the motor scooter produced in Webster City in the mid to late 1940s by Beam Manufacturing. There are members of the Doodlebug Club of America in 32 states plus France. There are at least 1,500 scooters remaining. Last year,a giant sculpture of a Doodlebug was dedicated at Second and Seneca Streets in Webster City. The Hamilton County Fairgrounds will be a busy place next week for the Doodlebug collectors with sales and more for the enthusiasts of the scooters.
