EAGLE GROVE, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles, Roland-Story Norsemen and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys cross country teams returned to the course on Thursday evening, as they competed in their Class 2A State Qualifying Meet at Eagle Grove Golf Course. The Eagles, Norsemen and Cowboys were joined by Aplington-Parkersburg, Central Springs, Crestwood, Okoboji, Sheldon, South Hardin, Southeast Valley, Spirit Lake, Union Community, Van Meter and West Marshall.
Roland-Story’s girls would be the highest placing area team in the girls meet, finishing 6th with a total of 153 points. Senior Kara Patterson would qualify for next week’s state meet by placing 9th in a time of 21:04.90, as junior Sophie Bates was 18th in 21:47.61. Hadley Carlson was 37th in 23:53.30, Callie Jedlicka was 46th in 24:29.91, as junior Logan Lande rounded out scoring in 50th with a time of 24:55.41.
Eagle Grove’s girls did not compete as a team, but freshman London Parrott punched her ticket to next week’s state meet by placing 11th in a time of 21:10.21, as Myka Anderson was 47th in 24:32.01, while Ingrid Pull was 61st in 26:37.94. CGD’s girls would only run junior Sofia Dahlgren, who placed 76th in 31:01.45.
Roland-Story’s boys was the top placing area boys squad, finishing 6th with 161 points, as senior Corben Lucchesi would finish runner-up in the meet with a time of 17:01.96 to punch his ticket to the state meet, as Caden Lucchesi was 25th in a time of 18:33.25. Jerry Severson was 32nd in a time of 18:56.77, Henry Dahlsten was 50th in 20:26.61, while Josiah Stotts rounded out scoring in 54th with a time of 20:41.83.
Eagle Grove placed 8th as a team with a total of 228 points, as junior Asarel Castro would place 24th in a time of 18:30.52, while senior Hunter Waldo-Martinez would be 34th in a time of 18:58.55. Stetson Kvale was 9th in 19:35.87, Anthony Vasquez was 63rd in 21:36.46, as Kezaran Friedl was 65th in 21:44.44.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows placed 9th in the team race with 248 points, as sophomore Carson Gump emerged as a surprise qualifier for next week’s state meet, placing 10th in 17:42.65, as freshman Max Engstler was 52nd in 20:37.25. Logan Torsell was 55th in 20:43.33, Edurardo Rivera was 57th in 21:07.81, as Roy Hoang rounded scoring in 78th with a time of 23:03.66.
The team qualifiers from the Eagle Grove site included West Marshall, Van Meter and Crestwood in the girls race, with Spirit Lake, Okoboji and Van Meter qualifying in the boys meet.
