Webster City baseball splits NCC doubleheader with Clear Lake

WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City entered at 15-5, while Clear Lake entered at 12-8.

Game 1 would be a pitchers duel throughout much of the game, as Webster City scored the first run in the 3rd inning on a Carter Mickelson sac fly, before Clear Lake took the lead in the top of the 5th on an error that allowed 2 runs to score as the Lions led 2-1. Webster City rallied in the bottom of the 5th, taking the lead on RBI singles from Matt Tesdahl and Carter Mickelson, as Clear Lake tied the game in the 6th on an RBI single to make it 3-3. Webster City then gained the advantage in the 6th on back-to-back bases-loaded walks and a Carter Mickelson RBI single, as the Lynx would clinch a 6-3 victory.

Matt Tesdahl picked up the win, going 6 innings allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 6 hits and striking out 7. Carter Mickelson would go 2-for-3 with 3 RBI, as well as picking up his 4th save of the year, while Tesdahl was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.

Game 2 followed with another pitchers duel, as Webster City took the first lead on a Braylon Dyvig RBI double in the 3rd to put the Lynx ahead 1-0. Clear Lake answered with a 2-run RBI double in the 4th to put the Lions ahead 2-1 going into the 5th. Clear Lake held that lead until the top of the 7th, as Webster City tied the game on a Carter Mickelson sac fly at 2-2, but Clear Lake would walk it off in the bottom of the 7th on a Tanner Nelson RBI single as the Lions upset the Lynx in Game 2, 3-2.

Braylon Dyvig took the loss on the bump despite pitching well, going 6.1 innings and allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and striking out 6. Dyvig also went 2-for-4 with an RBI double, while Aiden Hrnicek was 1-for-3 with a double.

Webster City baseball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host the Pocahontas Area Indians in non-conference action at Webster City High School, with first pitch at 5 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
