WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx softball team returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City entered with a record of 9-9, while Clear Lake entered at 18-3 and ranked #11 in Class 3A.
Monday’s first two innings were scoreless, before Clear Lake plated a run in the top of the 3rd to take a 1-0 lead. Webster City answered in the 4th with a Briley VanDeer RBI single to tie the game at 1-1, as Clear Lake took the lead on an RBI groundout in the 6th to put the Lions ahead 2-1. But, in the bottom of the 6th, sophomore Jaylyn Bahrenfuss delivered the biggest hit of her young career, with a 2-run home run to center field as Webster City took a 3-2 lead. The Lynx would sit down the Lions in the 7th to score an upset, 3-2 victory.
Briley VanDeer was the winning pitcher, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits in 6 innings of work. Jaylyn Bahrenfuss would go 1-for-3 with the 2-run home run, as Briley VanDeer went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Webster City softball returns to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Fort Dodge to take on the (1A) #5 St. Edmond Gaels in North Central Conference action at Harlan Rogers Sports Complex, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
