Roland-Story softball walks off extra-inning thriller with Saydel, 2-1

ROLAND, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Saydel Eagles in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Bill Hennessy Field in Roland. The Norsemen entered at 5-4, as the Eagles entered at 4-4.

Roland-Story struck first, putting up a run in the first on a Cece Doyle RBI ground out as the Norsemen took a 1-0 lead. Saydel wouldn’t answer until the 4th, when a run scored on a Norsemen error to tie the game at 1-1. That 1-1 score would last all the way to extra innings, until sophomore Lauren Crabbs came up with 2 on and 2 out, before ripping an RBI double into left field to drive in Kody McKay for a walk-off, 2-1 victory in 8 innings.

Miley Geise pitched a dominant game, going all 8 innings and allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 3 hits and striking out 10. Lauren Crabbs went 1-for-3 with the game ending RBI double, while Evelyn Carlson went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored.

Roland-Story softball returns to action on Tuesday night, when they host the Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Bill Hennessy Field, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
