ALGONA, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Monday evening, as they made the trip to Kossuth County to take on the Algona Bulldogs for a North Central Conference doubleheader at Algona High School. Webster City entered at 12-1, as Algona entered at 9-3.
Game 1 saw Webster City jump ahead early with 2 runs in the first on a Kaleb Hansen RBI single and a wild pitch as the Lynx took a 2-0 lead. Webster City would add onto the lead in the 3rd with an Aiden Hrnicek RBI single to take a 3-0 lead, before Algona responded with a sac fly in the 4th to make it 3-1. The Lynx would add a run in the 5th on a wild pitch, but Algona made their big rally in the bottom of the 5th with a 4-run frame, as Webster City was unable to answer in a 5-4 loss.
Alex Staley was the losing pitcher of record, pitching 1.2 innings of relief, allowing 1 run on 1 hit and striking out 2. Aiden Hrnicek was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Kaleb Hansen was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
In Game 2, Webster City scored early again off a Kaleb Hansen RBI double to take a 1-0 lead. Algona responded by scoring off an error in the 3rd to tie the game at 1-1, but that’s all the closer it would get. The Lynx would score 2 runs in the 5th off an error and a Matt Tesdahl RBI single, before Jaxon Griffith tallied a 2-run RBI single in the 6th as Webster City would take Game 2 by a score of 5-1.
Matt Tesdahl was the winning pitcher, going 6.2 innings and allowing 1 run (0 earned) on 4 hits and struck out 5. Tesdahl helped his own cause, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Jaxon Griffith went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Webster City baseball returns to action on Saturday, when they travel to Walt Anderson Field in Rippey to take on the Mount Vernon Mustangs in non-conference action, with first pitch at 2 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
