South Hamilton softball outslugs Perry on Friday, goes 1-2 in Hudson Tournament on Saturday

PERRY, Ia. AND HUDSON, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks softball team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip into Dallas County to take on the Perry Jayettes in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Perry High School. South Hamilton entered at 0-5, as Perry entered at 0-7.

South Hamilton would get on the board first off an error in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, as an Allie Neuberger RBI ground out in the 2nd put the Hawks ahead 2-0. Perry answered with a 3-run rally in the 2nd to take a 3-2 lead, as South Hamilton responded with a run in the 3rd off a Claire Hewitt RBI single to make it 3-3. South Hamilton then blew the game open in the 4th, as Ellie Beaune drove in a run on an RBI single to make it 4-3, before Adey Trask belted a grand slam over the center field fence to put the Hawks ahead 8-3. Perry got a run back in the 4th, but South Hamilton added onto the lead in the 6th, as Trask belted her 2nd home run of the day; a 2-run shot to left center to put the Hawks ahead 10-4. Perry would score a run in the 7th, but South Hamilton locked down a 10-5 victory.

Jill Hesse recorded the win, going 5 innings in relief, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits and striking out 3. Adey Trask had a monster night, going 3-for-4 with 2 home runs and 6 RBI, while Emma Lammers went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles.

South Hamilton would turn around and play in the Hudson Tournament on Saturday, as the Hawks opened with a 12-7 win over Janesville. Claire Hewitt went 1-for-2 with a double and 3 RBI, while Adey Trask was 0-for-2, but still recorded 2 RBI.

The Hawks then lost to Denver 18-2, as Addyson Robb went 2-for- with an RBI, while Ellie Beaune was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI, before South Hamilton ended the day with a 3-2 loss to Hudson, as Emma Lammers took the loss in the circle, despite pitching well, while going 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 runs scored.

South Hamilton softball returns to action on Monday, when they host Greene County in Heart of Iowa Conference action, with first pitch slated for 7:30 PM.
