CLEAR LAKE, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx softball team returned to action on Wednesday evening, as they made the trip to far northern Iowa to take on the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at the Lions Softball Field. Webster City entered at 2-2, as Clear Lake entered at 7-0.
Webster City would strike first out of the gate with a Haydin Sealine RBI double to take a 1-0 lead, but Clear Lake would respond with 4 runs in the bottom of the first, with 2 more runs in the 2nd to take a 6-1 lead. That lead would hold until the 5th, when Webster City rallied for 5 runs off a Morgan Tempel RBI single, a Hayden McCoy RBI ground out, a Morgan Hackbarth RBI triple, a passed ball and a Jaylyn Bahrenfuss RBI single to tie the game at 6-6. Clear Lake’s offense sprang back to life with 2 runs in the 5th and 5 more runs in the 6th to cap a 13-6 victory.
Jakaela Cherry took the loss in the circle in her first start of the year, going 6 innings and allowing 13 runs (10 earned) on 13 hits and striking out 3. Morgan Hackbarth went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a home run shy of a cycle, while Morgan Tempel went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Webster City softball returns to action on Friday, when they host (1A) #6 St. Edmond in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
