Webster City baseball falls in extra in Battle at the Capital against South Hardin, 6-5

DES MOINES, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Wednesday afternoon, as they made the trip to Des Moines to take on the South Hardin Tigers in a non-conference matchup dubbed “The Battle at the Capital” at Principal Park. Webster City entered at 10-0, as South Hardin entered at 5-4.

It would be a rough start for the Lynx, as South Hardin put up 4 runs in the first, chasing starter Braylon Dyvig from the game to take a 4-0 lead. Webster City wouldn’t get on the board until the 3rd on a Matt Tesdahl RBI single to make it 4-1, but South Hardin answered with a run scoring on an error to make it 5-1. Webster City would answer in the 5th in a big way, as junior catcher Kaleb Hansen hit a grand slam over the left field wall to tie the game at 5-5. The game would spill into extras, as the South Hardin emerged victorious, walking things off with a wild pitch in a 6-5, 8-inning victory.

Matt Tesdahl was charged with the loss in relief despite a stellar outing, going 7.1 innings and allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 3 hits and striking out 8. Kaleb Hansen went 2-for-4 with a grand slam, while Matt Tesdahl went 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Webster City baseball returns to action on Saturday, when they compete in the Newell-Fonda Tournament over in Fonda, beginning at 9 AM.
