STORY CITY, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the West Marshall Trojans in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Norsemen Field in Story City. Roland-Story entered at 12-0 and ranked #2 in Class 2A, as West Marshall entered at 5-4.
Game 1’s first inning was scoreless, as West Marshall scored on an RBI groundout in the 2nd to take a 1-0 lead. Roland-Story would answer in the bottom of the 3rd on an error that allowed 2 runs to score as the Norsemen led 2-1 after three. That 2-1 advantage lasted until the 7th, as West Marshall took the lead on a 2-run RBI single by Beckham DeSotel to take a 3-2 lead. Roland-Story responded with a Cael Faber RBI groundout to tie the game at 3-3 and send it to extras. In the 8th, Roland-Story would emerge victorious behind a walk-off walk to come away with a 4-3, 8-inning victory.
Reece Blaisdell picked up the win in relief, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing 2 runs on 2 hits and striking out 2, as Colin Willis pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 5. Colin Willis and Chance Georgius recorded the lone hits for the Norsemen.
Game 2 saw the Norsemen jump on West Marshall right away, scoring 2 runs in the bottom of the first off a Braden Wallace 2-run RBI single to put Roland-Story up 2-0. Four more runs would score in the 2nd on a Cael Faber RBI single, an error and a Colin Willis sacrifice bunt, as the 3rd saw the Norsemen score 2 runs on an Aiden Frey RBI groundout and an error as Roland-Story led 8-0 after three innings. The Norsemen would finish things off in the 5th with a Recce Blaisdell RBI double and a Cael Faber RBI single to cap off a 10-0, 5-inning victory.
Cael Faber was the winning pitcher, going 5 innings and allowed no runs on 2 hits and struck out 6. Cael Faber went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI, as Braden Wallace went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Roland-Story baseball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Des Moines to take on the Des Moines Lincoln Railsplitters in a non-conference doubleheader at the Kurtz Opportunity Center, with Game 1 starting at 3:30 PM.
