Webster City softball downs Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, 9-2

WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls softball teams returned to action on Friday night, as the two programs faced one another in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City entered at 0-1, while CGD entered at 1-2.

Webster City struck first with an Alivia Burns steal of home to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead, before an Izzy Weinschenk RBI single in the 2nd drove in a run to make it 2-0. CGD scored on an error in the 3rd to make it 2-1, before 2 Webster City runs scored on a passed ball and an Izzy Weinschenk sac fly to put the Lynx up 4-1. The Webster City power than showed out as Morgan Tempel launched a 2-run home run to center field in the 5th to make it 6-1, as CGD answered with a Blaire Askelsen RBI single in the 6th to cut it to 6-2. In the bottom of the 6th, Webster City added 3 runs off a Hayden McCoy RBI triple, a Hayden Sealine RBI single and a Morgan Tempel RBI triple to put the Lynx ahead 9-2, which would be the final.

Briley VanDeer was the winning pitcher, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits and struck out 10. Morgan Tempel put together a monster night, going 4-for-4 with a home run, a triple, 2 doubles and 3 RBI, while Alivia Burns went 4-for-4 with 4 singles.

Kinlee Nail took the loss for CGD, pitching 6 innings and allowing 9 runs (8 earned) on 13 hits and struck out 4. Nail also went 2-for-2 with a double, while Blaire Askelsen went 1-for-3 with an RBI single.

Webster City softball returns to action on Monday night, as they host the Humboldt Wildcats in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School with first pitch at 7:30 PM. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows softball returns to action on Monday night, as they host the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at CGD High School, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
