Webster City baseball downs Newell-Fonda on the road, 7-4

FONDA, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip to northwest Iowa to take on the Newell-Fonda Mustangs in non-conference action at the Fonda Baseball Diamond. Webster City entered at 9-0, while Newell-Fonda entered at 0-3.

Friday’s first inning went scoreless, as the Lynx started scoring in the 2nd with Aiden Hrnicek hitting a solo home run to left field to make the score 1-0. Webster City struck again in the 3rd with a Kaleb Hansen 2-run RBI single to take a 3-0 lead, as 2 more runs came across in the 5th on an error and a wild pitch as the Lynx led 5-0. Webster City added 2 more runs in the 6th on a Braylon Dyvig RBI double and a Carter Mickelson RBI double to take a 7-0 lead, but Newell-Fonda mounted a rally in the 6th to cut the lead to 7-4. Webster City would shut down the Mustangs in the 7th to cap the 7-4 victory.

Alex Staley was the winning pitcher, going 5 innings and allowing 1 run on 1 hit and striking out 10. Aiden Hrnicek was 1-for-3 with a solo home run, while Kaleb Hansen went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

Webster City baseball returns to action on Wednesday, when they take on the South Hardin Tigers at Principal Park in Des Moines for non-conference action, with first pitch at 3 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
