APLINGTON, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx boys soccer team returned to action on Friday evening, as they made the trip into northeast Iowa to take on the Aplington-Parkersburg Falcons in the Class 2A, Substate 2 final at the Aplington Football Field. Webster City entered at 11-2-3, while Aplington-Parkersburg entered at 12-3-2.
A-P would jump on the Lynx early, as the Falcons scored goals in the 6th and 14th minutes to take an early 2-0 lead. Webster City would shake off the ambush and answer with a 20th minute goal from Abisai Ramirez-Carmona to cut the deficit to 2-1. A-P would push the lead back to 2 goals with a 39th minute goal to take a 3-1 halftime lead.
Webster City would come out of the gate swinging in the 2nd half, as Abisai Ramirez-Carmona scored his 2nd goal of the half in the 42nd minute to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Lynx had opportunities to tie the match, including a goal from David Villelas that was wiped out by a violation, but ultimately couldn’t get the ball into the net one more time in a 3-2 defeat.
Aplington-Parkersburg advances to Class 2A Tournament, where they will face #1 Gilbert in the first round on Monday evening at 7:30 PM. Webster City’s season ends with a record of 11-3-3.
