Webster City- Tuesday is primary election day across Iowa. In Hamilton County, the contested races for the primary will feature the two Republicans vying for Iowa House District 55. The district includes all of Franklin and Hamilton Counties and portions of Story and Wright Counties. The candidates facing each other will be Kurtis Bower of Roland and Beau Klaver of Kamrar. The winner of the Tuesday primary will face Democratic candidate Cynthia Oppedal Paschen this November. The winner will succeed Shannon Latham who is not seeking re-election this year. Other Hamilton County races in the Tuesday primary are all unopposed. They are Republicans Matt Matteson who is seeking another term as Hamilton County Treasurer and Kim Anderson as Hamilton County Recorder who is seeking another term. On the Democratic ballot, Bridget A. Chambers is running as Hamilton County Attorney who is uncontested in Tuesday’s election Current Hamilton County Attorney Patrick Chambers is not seeking re-election this year.
There are other key races in the Tuesday primary. On the Republican ballot for the U.S. Senate, it will be Jim Carlin facing Ashley Hinson. Chris McGowan is running unopposed for U.S. Representative District 4 which is the seat that has been held by Randy Feenstra. There is a five-way race for governor on the GOP side with Eddie Andrews, Randy Feenstra, Zach Lahn, Brad Sherman and Adam Steen. The Republican winner for governor will face Democrat Rob Sand this November. Sand is unopposed in the Tuesday Democratic primary. As for the other Democratic candidate, there is a two-way race for U.S Senator between Josh Turek and Zach Wahls with the winner to face the Republican winner this November. Current U.S. Senator Republican Joni Ernst is not seeking re-election. The same goes for Republican Governor Kim Reynolds who will not be running for her seat. There will be a three race for U.S. Representative District 4 in the Tuesday primary. The candidates are Dave Dawson, Stephanie Steiner and Ashley WolfTornabane. There will also be races for Iowa Secretary of State, State Auditor, State Treasurer and State Ag Secretary.
