Eagle Grove baseball picks up first win over Belmond-Klemme, 10-3

EAGLE GROVE, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team returned to action on Friday night, as made the trip across Wright County to take on the Belmond-Klemme Broncos in Top of Iowa West action at Belmond-Klemme High School. Eagle Grove entered at 0-3, while Belmond-Klemme also entered at 0-3.

Eagle Grove was first on the board in the first, with 2 runs off a Hayden Schafer sac fly and a Jackson Babcock RBI ground out to make it 2-0, before the Broncos answered on a wild pitch to make it 2-1 after one. A scoreless 2nd gave way to the 3rd, where Eagle Grove scored 3 runs on a fielders choice, a wild pitch and a Jace Olson RBI groundout to put the Eagles up 5-1. The Eagles added another run in the 4th off an error, as a Hayden Schafer RBI single in the 6th made the lead 7-1. Eagle Grove scored 3 runs in the 7th off 3 wild pitches, as the Broncos scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to settle a 10-3 Eagle Grove victory.

Gavin Pedersen picked up the win on the mound, pitching 6 innings and allowing 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 11. Hayden Schafer went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI, as Jackson Babcock went 0-for-3 with 2 RBI.

Eagle Grove baseball returns to action on Monday night, as they host the Bishop Garrigan Golden Bears in Top of Iowa West action at Bruce Rholl Field, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
