MANSON, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball team returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip into Calhoun County to take on the Manson-Northwest Webster Cougars in non-conference action at the Keith Hart Athletic Complex. CGD entered Thursday at 0-2, while M-NW entered Thursday at 0-1.
Thursday’s first inning was scoreless, but the 2nd inning saw the Cowboys bats come to life with a Charlie Campbell 2-run RBI triple and a Tristan Kakacek RBI groundout to put the Cowboys ahead 3-0. The Cowboys held that advantage until the 7th, when they added 2 more runs on a Jacob Ruba RBI groundout and an Ethan Hasty RBI single to put CGD ahead 5-0. However, Manson would mount a furious rally in the 7th, scoring on an RBI single, a bases-loade walk, and a passed ball, before striking out to end the game with CGD claiming a 5-3 victory.
Jacob Ruba picked up the win on the mound, pitching the complete game, allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits and striking out 9. Charlie Campbell went 1-for-2 with a 2-run RBI triple, as Ethan Hasty went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host the Algona Bulldogs for a North Central Conference doubleheader at CGD High School, with first pitch at 5 PM.
