Two people killed in Friday night accident near Belmond.

Belmond-The Iowa State Patrol with the assistance of the Wright County Sheriff’s Department investigated a two-vehicle crash just before 7:30 Friday night at the intersection of Highway 69 and 200th Street near Belmond. Reportedly a southbound 2000 model Ford Ranger pickup truck driven by Michael Thomas Mickelson of Belmond was on Highway 69 when he made an illegal U-turn and was struck by a southbound 2014 model Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by 25-year-old Mcain Alan Hefti of Dows.  65-year-old Michael Thomas Mickelson and a passenger, 71-year-old Ellen Kay Countryman also of Belmond were pronounced dead at the accident scene Friday night. The Belmond Fire, Police and EMS Departments responded to the accident. The investigation continues behind the accident by both the Iowa State Patrol and Wright County Sheriff’s Department.
